Fifty DHS students participated in a 24 hour fast on April 23 to April 24 to raise awareness for the ongoing conflict in Darfur.

Eight of the students who fasted gathered at Dos Coyotes on Saturday to break the fast together. Although only a small number of participants showed up, 50 of the 64 students who pledged to participate followed through, according to sophomore Nicole Olichney, the organizer of the event.

Though the fast did not raise money or directly aid the crisis in Sudan, participants in the fast maintained they were helping simply by raising awareness.

“People have to know what’s going on before they can do anything about it,” junior Maddie Trost said.
