DHS student government has decided that the date of the homecoming dance this year should be moved to Oct. 21.

It also is not planning the rally that normally happens homecoming day at lunch.

“We had to change the date … and planning for everything became too much,” said senior Yasmeen Nahal, a member of the student government.

Instead of a rushed dance, student government opted for a delay and more time to plan. It replaced the rally with smaller lunchtime events that will be occurring all homecoming week.

Monday a student band is playing, Tuesday there will be trivia, Wednesday there will be karaoke and Thursday there will be a dunk tank.

According to student government member and junior Kelly Chuck, the dance preparation has already begun and student government has already elected a nautical theme.

Both Chuck and senior Jacob Vanderbilt are involved in the dance planning.

“It’s sort of based off ‘I’m on a boat,’” Vanderbilt said.
