DHS men’s varsity basketball loses to Lodi, J.V. wins

The DHS men’s varsity basketball team lost to Lodi High School 98-92 on Jan. 4.

The Blue Devils started strong and held the lead for most of the first half.

At halftime, Davis was up 54-43, but Lodi was able to keep up with DHS’ fast-paced style of play.

Davis was able to keep a tight two-point lead in the third quarter, but Lodi was able to pass up the Blue Devils in the last few minutes of the game.

Junior Hayden Russell led DHS in scoring with 24 points. Senior Tyler Sousa had 16.

The Blue Devil J.V. team pulled off a close two-point victory of the Lodi J.V. team, defeating them 65-63.

Both teams started out strong, but DHS pulled away in the first half, leading Lodi 41-22 when time ran out in the 2nd quarter.

Davis maintained a 13 point lead throughout the third quarter.

In the middle of the third, sophomore-standout Brandon Strong wowed the crowd with blocked shot after sprinting full court to stop a Lodi breakaway.

Head coach Bob Silva put in the reserves with four minutes left in the fourth quarter, but turnovers allowed Lodi to climb back into a position to win and the starters were sent back onto the court.

The win for DHS came down to the final buzzer when sophomore CK Hicks scored a key lay-up with four seconds left in the game. The Blue Devils finished out the game with a two-point lead.

Stong led the team with 26 points. Sophomore Brett Bloomfield added 15 points on the night.

According to Strong, the team still needs to work on its defense and its full-court press, but overall they did well playing together as a team.

“We got the win and that’s all that matters,” Strong said.
