Republican presidential candidate Ron Paul spoke Thursday night on the UC Davis quad. The speech, which lasted almost an hour, touched on various issues, including Paul’s Libertarian beliefs that the Federal Reserve should be eliminated, individuals should be allowed to use drugs and that an overall reduction of laws would help create a more free society.

The Texan congressman has had a particularly strong showing with youth during the 2012 presidential election, which was represented in the high turnout.

The rally went smoothly, though there was a brief kerfuffle when one rally-goer displayed a sign that read in part, “The Federal Reserve is a Jewish conspiracy.” However, he was quickly shunted aside.
