The DHS cross-country team pulled out a victory this Tuesday in its first Delta Valley Conference meet. The team raced against schools such as Grant, Laguna Creek, Monterey Trail and Elk Grove, and won each division.

The races took place at Granite Regional Park in Sacramento. The course was dry, dusty and hot. At a whopping 91 degrees, each runner braved the heat and shade-less course to compete in the season’s third meet.

Leading the pack for the freshman/sophomore boys was freshman Kellen Browning, followed shortly thereafter by sophomores Blake Croft and Charlie Harris.

Freshman Claire Dicker took the win for the freshman/sophomore girls division with a personal best time for the 2.2 mile course.

The course morphed into a 5k run for the varsity divisions. Senior Jack Scranton led the varsity boys to victory in his first 5k this season. It is also notable to mention that the varsity-type runners were instructed to treat the meet as a workout rather than a race.

For her third consecutive time, freshman Fiona O’Keefe placed first for Davis in the varsity girls division, “It was the same course we ran last week, I like the course,” O’Keefe said. Junior Sophie Meads was quick to follow O’Keefe and placed second in the race.

Assistant Coach Tim Groth holds a positive outlook of this year’s cross-country team, “I think we’ll win league championship,” Groth said.
