The Davis High blue devils women’s varsity field hockey team continues to go undefeated in league with a 7-0 win over Lassen High on Sept. 26.

According to Coach Sandie Marotti-Huckins, coming into the game, the team was “trying to practice controlled passing [and tried] not to run the score up, but set up good goals.”

While passing well to find the opening for a goal, the team was also able to rack up a good amount of goals.

Although kept scoreless in the first 10 minutes of the game, the Devils pounded in three goals in the next 10 minutes.

Senior Ariana Enzerink started the rain of goal off of a short corner by senior Kayla Robinson. Four minutes later, senior Kylie Drexel drove to the baseline, cut back and whipped in another goal far post. Jade Busch and Drexel each scored another goal to end the half up at 4-0.

Davis High took their time getting back into their groove in the second half, scoring three more goals in the last 10 minutes of the game. Senior Emily Barber followed up a shot by Drexel, sliding the ball into the goal.

Senior Malia Fujisawa then blasted a shot in from the top of the circle and Barber added another one more goal to cap the score at 7-0. In the last few minutes of the game, Barber scored a goal off of a short corner that was later called back by the referees.

While exhibiting good passing on offense, the Davis High defense also kept Lassen at bay, rarely allowing them to cross the half-line and into scoring territory.

Despite dominating the whole game, Fujisawa did not believe this was the team’s best game.

“We definitely did not play ‘our game’ but we managed […] we had some excellent passing sequences and shots on goal. I would say we had a good game, just not a great game,” Fujisawa said.

With the win, the team brings its record up to 6-0, facing off against the also undefeated Chico High team during the Cure for Cancer game on Sept. 28 at Halden Field.
