Everybody Dance Now is back for its third annual competition. The dance competition is put on by the Davis High School Jazz Choir as a fundraiser event intended to raise money for the singing and dancing group’s spring tour while at the same time attracting more students to the Jazz Choir program.

Just last year, the name of the show was changed from Davis High’s So You Think You Can Dance to Everybody Dance Now. The competition will be on Oct. 13 at 7p.m. at Davis High School’s Richard Brunelle Performance Hall (IPAB).

Tickets for the performance are being sold at Watermelon Music and by Jazz Choir members, and were sold on the Davis High quad Oct. 10 to Oct. 12. Tickets cost $8 for general admission and $5 for students. All seats will cost $10 at the door.

The contestants will perform in front of an audience as well as a panel of judges. During intermission, the audience members will cast their votes for the audience choice winner. During the second act of the show, Jazz Choir and other featured performers, such as last year’s winner Ashlyn Savidge, will perform while the judges decide on an overall winner of the competition.

“Watching the contestants is always really fun because you see the people you see at school perform and you get to see a different side of them,” Jazz Choir member and senior John Testerman said.

Jazz Choir teacher William Zinn says there will be a broad representation of dance styles at the show. “More styles than I can remember,” Zinn said. He does know for sure that there will be an Indian classical dance, some ballet, modern dancing, and hip-hop.

The overall winner will receive a cash award along with the title“Everybody Dance Now winner” and will also be invited back next year as a featured performer.

Jazz Choir has been rehearsing for this show since school started in August. They plan on performing two numbers, Over the Rainbow and Paper Moon, both as tributes to the famous American composer Harold Arlen.
