As the morning of Oct. 26 approached, the Davis High Red Cross Club was preparing for their first blood drive of the year. Every year, there are two blood drives hosted at Davis High, one every semester.

This year, according to senior Michelle Chin, was one of the best turnouts in the last few years. This is Chin’s first year in the Red Cross Club, and she holds the position of secretary.

“This was the first year that we got all the sign ups filled,” Chin said. “A lot of people seem really into it, maybe it’s the food and the t-shirts.”

Whether it was for the food and t-shirts or not, students were seen walking towards the staff parking lot on Oak Street with passes in their hands all day.

Blood Source hosted the event, and visited Davis High between 8 a.m. and 2 p.m. There were two tents for people to wait under and for the registration booth, as well as three buses where blood was taken.

Although there were a lot of students to give blood, some like senior Brenna Perry didn’t. “I really wanted to, and I was planning to, but I have a fear of needles. I plan to next semester though.”

Junior Eli Smith said he wanted to do it because “I know someone out there always can use some blood after an accident or something like that, and blood is something that is so easy to give.”

This was one of the major events for the Red Cross Club, and with a completely full slot schedule, it made a difference for those who will be receiving the blood.
