Neal’s Mini-guide to the Tumblr Universe

It has finally happened. More people have typed in “tumblr” into Google more than the word “blog.” If you haven’t quite gotten into the Tumblr bandwagon here are a couple sites that could tickle your fancy.

For the fifteen-something who is still obsessed with Mean Girls and can still socially get away with being a total fan-girl (or fan-boy) over “The Hunger Games,” there is the Mean Girls of Panem. It’s pretty much what the name implies: take stills from “The Hunger Games” movie and add quotes from “Mean Girls” or vice-versa. So fetch!

For the more civilized sorts of people, there is Downton Pawnee which is where the beautiful people of Downton Abbey meet the realistic people of “Parks and Recreation” in the same style as Mean Girls of Panem.

Interested in photography? Well there are a lot of sites on tumblr that feature photos. Then again, every page features photographs. However, here are a couple that are worth checking out.

The Lively Morgue is a Tumblr that features many photographs from the New York Times archives. It’s incredibly interesting because the photos can tell stories without the blurb that they are given.

Underground New York Public Library is a Tumblr comprised of photos of people reading on the subways of New York City. This site will restore your faith that books are not being replaced by television.

If you are a fan of the “Ocean” movies (Oceans 11, 12, and 13) then check out Brad Pitt Eating (+ Drinking) Things. As the name entails, it’s pretty much all pictures and gifs of Brad Pitt eating or drinking, which is all I remember from those Ocean movies.

These are only a few pieces of the Tumblr universe. Sometimes you just got to tumble, maybe as a poet at Google Poetics, or the girl who pines after the bad boy at Hot and Busted, or maybe just the boy/girl who is standing in front of a blog asking it to entertain them and allow them to procrastinate on homework for just another hour. To help you out, ponder this. What if Adele was Mrs. Doubtfire?
