Dynamic drill runs smoothly

Students swarmed to classrooms while teachers ushered them in between third and fourth period on March 8 for the previously announced “dynamic drill.”

Students were instructed to lockdown in the nearest classroom when they heard the announcement and go to the stadium if they could not get to a classroom in time.

According to Davis High School principal Jacquelyn Moore, “only about 90 kids ended up at the stadium. That is only three classrooms worth.” The principal considered this aspect of the drill a success.

According to junior Katie Werner, the teachers seemed to react correctly. “I was ushered in by a teacher within the first few seconds of the announcement.”

Moore was pleased with the teacher’s response. “Almost every teacher held their door open for a minute before shutting the door and locking down the classroom,” Moore said.

The only hitch in the drill was that several students in the quad and S-building quad could not hear the announcement.

According to junior Peyton Lyons, “if the yard supervisor had not been there to say that we were on lockdown, I would not have known.”

Moore noticed the problem as well and said that she and the staff would consider having a completely separate bell for lockdowns, just as there is a different bell for evacuations. It may make it easier to hear and easier to tell the difference from just usual announcements.
