Alumni, Davis High School students and Davis community members filled Sudwerk on Aug 17 at 7 p.m. to play Bunco, win raffle prizes and earn money for the Student Activity Grant Program.

The grant program, offered by the Blue and White Foudation, helps students do a variety of activities including conferences, summer programs and field trips.

Senior Ale Ruiz-Jimenez was able to visit Kurashiki, Japan with her Japanese 3 class with the help of the grant program. She was able to practice her Japanese, absorb the culture and have an experience that was “much more fun than sitting in a classroom,” according to Ruiz-Jimenez.

The grant money does not only help students who are leaving the country. Recent 2013 graduate, Henry Anker was able to publish a catalog of his artwork with the help of the grant program. Anker had his art in Gallery 625 in Woodland, but was also able to “send out his work to those who could not make it to the exhibition,” according to Anker.

The entry fee and donations of Bunco night all went to the Student Activity Grant Program to help another generation of grant recipients.
