Door decorating is a tradition Davis High celebrates every homecoming. Each fourth period class decorates their classroom door and then student government chooses the winner.

Last year homecoming theme was Harry Potter. Science teacher Eric Bastin’s class won first place. They decorated the whole room and they had a banquet. Students also dressed up as the Harry Potter characters and acted it out.

“My last year students were into it but I’m not sure about this year. If my students want to do it then we will participate,” Bastin said.

Bastin recalls previous door decorations and remembers one that stood out the most.

“The greatest decoration I saw so far, was 5 years ago. One English class acted out a scene from Macbeth as reading,” Bastin said.

Bastin jokingly mentions “whoever bribes the most” can win the competition.

One of the teachers that is participating in this contest is AP Art History teacher Douglas Wright. He came out with the main idea and encouraged the class to help out. Junior Mariana Almanza-Soto is a student in his class.

“We used some of our art [history] flashcards to spell out DHS. I think we finished it or came pretty close,” Almanza-Soto said.

Their class had some extra time last week to get started on decorating.

“I feel like door decorating is more to add to the homecoming experience […] it’d be cool to win,” Almanza-Soto said.
