Full of intense battle between Spiderman and supervillains, but also enriched with battles of Spiderman and his extraordinary responsibility versus his true identity of Peter Parker, the Amazing Spider Man franchise created a brilliant second installment into the series.

The film follows the first installment of the franchise, where the main character Peter Parker is bitten by a radioactive spider, and after his uncle is murdered on the streets of New York, he goes on a crime fighting rampage, becoming the world’s favorite vigilante. This second installment of the movie series continues on after Spider Man stops an evil oscorp scientist from turning the people of the city into Lizards. Plagued by seeing the death and hearing the last words from Gwen’s father, to stay away from her to keep her safe, Parker has to deal with his inner struggle of whether or not he should leave Gwen.

The special effects of the movie succeed that of its predecessors, leaving the viewer in a constant state of eye astonishment. The main villain “Electro” seemed as if it would be a difficult villain to show, but the fantastic special effects outdo themselves. Marc Webb’s obvious love for making dramatic scenes through slow-motion effects creates a lasting effect on the viewer, similar to that of the Matrix.

The actors cast for the set played a huge role in the success of the film. The constant emotional ties between Gwen Stacy (Emma Stone) and Peter Parker (Andrew Garfield) put the viewer on an emotional rollercoaster so that even when they have doubts about their relationship the viewer roots for them to push through.

This emotional rollercoaster, although good in some ways, is confusing for viewers. Marc Webb’s attempt to create serious lasting emotional effects on the viewer and also create the funny and fun loving Spider Man movie does not quite make sense.

Following the comics almost to the letter, the film mirrors the classic Marvel superhero movie, combining funny lines and witty comments with intense action and fighting scenes. Instead of just going for one type of movie, it becomes the jack of all trades movie. This is not necessarily a bad thing, but it seems like Webb should just make up his mind on what kind of movie he wants it to be.

Another downfall of the movie is the over complicated plot. With too many characters that interact with each other, and a complex storyline that is a little too hard to follow for a superhero movie, the film leaves the viewer not only confused but slightly annoyed by how long it lasts. Lasting 142 minutes, the film could have cut out a lot of unnecessary plotline in order to keep the viewer interested.

Overall the movie was fantastic, creating a certain expectation for the third installment which is planned to come out next year.
