The Davis High varsity and JV baseball teams had their end-of-the-year banquet only two days after the varsity team won the section championship. According to the players, parents and coaches, there couldn’t have been a better way to end such a successful season.

The banquet featured steak, mashed potatoes and chicken catered by Outback Steakhouse. The crowd was able to socialize and think back on the season. It was also located at our very own high school, which was very special and convenient, according to varsity coach Dan Ariola.

“It was a great banquet! I like having it at the high school. We haven’t had it over here in a long time. We get the venue for free, it’s everyone’s school, its a good place to have it,” Ariola said.

Perhaps even more special than the venue was the fact that the boys who had been playing together for years were able to finish their season on a high note.

Sophomore Ryan Kreidler, juniors Drew Gnos and Nate Curtis, and seniors Josh Guerrero, John Ariola, Brett Bloomfield and Trey Golston all played together on the 10 year old all-star team for Davis Little League. They won the state tournament, which was as far as they could go at that age.

Even though the other teammates didn’t play on this all-star team, they have still known most of the other players for the majority of their baseball careers.

Senior John Ariola, Dan Ariola’s son, said that it was an amazing experience to win the sections with the boys he has played with all his life.

“We’ve been playing together for about 10 years. I mean it’s just a great way to go out. I love everyone on the team-not just the seniors-but everyone on the team. It’s just a perfect way to my high school baseball career to win a section championship,” the young Ariola said.

His father agrees that this was a very special group. “Well, we’re team players… we’re guys that play for the team. They’re all from the same community; they grew up together as opposed to coming from different places or parts of the city,” Ariola said.

The banquet officially marked the end of the baseball season, but it is not a season that anyone will soon forget.
