Davis High Concert Band and Symphonic Band put on the annual Winter Rhaposdy Concert in the IPAB on Dec. 11. The concert included pieces from the individual bands as well as a few pieces from the two bands combined.

Despite the heavy rain, the concert had a nice turn out with a nearly full theater. The Winter Rhapsody Concert is one of the more popular performances of the year, according to Symphonic Band senior Arden Ambrose.

The Symphonic Band has only been preparing for the concert for the past few weeks, while the Concert Band has been rehearsing almost all year. Band director Thomas Slabaugh is pleased with how both bands performed this evening.

“I have a lot of trust and a lot of faith in both bands,” Slabaugh said. “I was so proud of the Concert Band, with this being their first performance.”

Ambrose is also very happy with how well both bands played at the concert.

“I wasn’t too nervous,” Ambrose said. “There was one song I hadn’t played with the group before […] and it actually went pretty well.”

After each band performed separately at the concert, they joined together onstage to perform two holiday themed songs.

With the rest of the year ahead, Ambrose says she is particularly excited for the Symphonic Band trip to San Diego in the spring.
