The lady devil softball team suffered a tough loss to St. Francis on Mar. 20. The game ended with a final score of 12-9.

The devils fought hard. There were several inning ending caught fly balls in the outfield and even a diving catch by shortstop Emily Gin.

Sophomore Ashley Dufresne had a stellar game in which she pitched multiple innings both in the middle of the game and at the end.

Although the devils lost they managed to rake in several runs. Rachel Mobley hit a single in the fourth inning which loaded the bases for a potential Grand Slam while freshman, catcher Julia Garza stepped up to bad. Unfortunately, she was walked by St. Francis but Rachel Clift still scored a run.

“I think we were pretty strong offensively but we had some big defensive errors,” said junior Mickey Cross.

Cross hit a double in the bottom of the fifth to run in two on base blue devil players. She then did it again at the next inning.

“I think we battled back really well they scored a lot of runs but we battled back,” said Garza.

“I thought they [St. Francis] got lucky a couple of plays and our kids never quit so its disappointing that you lose games like this,” said head coach Art Guerra. “But I take out of it that were improving quite a bit and as long as we keep doing that I’ll be a happy coach.”

Although the devils were defeated in this game they remain optimistic about the rest of the season.

“I think we’ll have a really competitive season but were gonna have a lot of really hard games that were gonna have to push to win,” said Cross.

“We’ll be ok you know were growing up everyday its a learning experience because we’re young and we haven’t played anybody yet that is really way better than us,” said Guerra. “It just happens that we’re on the wrong end of the score but I think we’ll be alright.”
