The Davis High School men’s varsity soccer team triumphed over the Vintage High School Chargers at a scrimmage on Friday, Aug. 28, with Davis sweeping the field in a final score of 7-0. This win was the morale boost the Blue Devils needed to move forward with confidence to the rest of the season.

The scrimmage was fast moving, with all the team members contributing to the win. The first goal was made by Elijah Alba, and Matt Cheung finished the game off with goal seven. Players Kyle Cuvelier, Ethan Hessl, Adustin Villegas and Kieran Swenson all scored as well.

Team chemistry improved from the Blue Devils’ last scrimmage on August 26, allowing play to flow.

“This game was a lot better than our last one, because we were not as sloppy,” Cuvelier said. “We got to know our teammates better, and we became used to each other.”

Senior Ethan Hessl agrees that the team did a better job working together. “I think we played pretty well as a team. We did a good job communicating and everyone participated,” Hessl said.

“The whole team played well; there was a lot of movement and ball possession in the final shot,” head coach Alex Park said. “The last game the team dealt with nerves, and now they are more confident.”

Today’s win was only the first step in the team’s plans for future success.

“We are working on being consistent, and we have to peak at the right time,” Park said.

With a solid win under their belt, the team expects a successful year.

“We are close to being ready for the season,” Cuvelier said.
