I think it’s safe to say that after listening to Justin Bieber’s new album “Purpose,” I now have a bad case of “Bieber-fever.” While listening to the album, it was easy to see that Bieber wrote his songs for his ex-lover Selena Gomez, which he admitted during an interview with Access Hollywood. Overall, Bieber’s album spoke volumes about who he was and who he has become. There is no doubt that I will have “Purpose” on repeat for the next few months.

1. Purpose
The tone of the album is set as Bieber repeats the phrase, “Mark my words” as he vows to give you all he’s got and “show you more than I could ever say.” This first song got me excited about listening to the rest of the album, so I could listen to Bieber’s marvelous voice more and learn about how he felt toward Gomez.

2. I’ll Show You
In an interview with Access Hollywood, Bieber admitted that in the past few year he wasn’t very happy and said, “when you’re in a bad head-space, you’re writing about that bad head-space and what you’re going through at the time, and it just doesn’t really match up with what I’m doing.” In the first two lines of this song Bieber reflects on his past year: “My life is a movie and everyone’s watching. So let’s go to the good part and past all the nonsense.” This really adds to the effect of the song.

3. What Do You Mean?
This song was released early on Aug. 28 and was Bieber’s first No. 1 song on the Billboard for a reason. I knew I was coming down with ‘Bieber-fever’ because when I first heard this song on the radio I got the chills. The piano keys and woodblock percussion sounded immaculate with Bieber’s voice.

4. Sorry
This song was another early release, which came out on Oct. 23. Bieber was able to show maturity in this song by repeating the word “sorry.” I really enjoyed the upbeat music that again fit Bieber’s angelic voice perfectly.

5. Love Yourself
I was surprised that this song was so much slower than the rest, but it was clearly because Bieber decided to harmonize with Ed Sheeran, which sounded perfect. I also really enjoyed the song being acoustic and featuring just vocals and guitar.

6. Company
Although the album was altogether amazing, it was hard to not skip through this song. I enjoyed listening to Bieber’s voice, but I thought that the music choice that accompanied it was not the greatest.

7. No Pressure (ft. Big Sean)
When this song first came on I wasn’t too impressed, but as it continued it grew on me because of the message Bieber was sending, most likely to Gomez. Big Sean being featured in the song definitely made it better, because his verses fit perfectly with the song’s message.

8. No Sense (ft. Travis Scott)
This song started off slow, but it picked up right before Travis Scott came it. It is apparent that the lyrics Bieber chose for this song go hand-in-hand with his own experiences.

9. The Feeling (ft. Halsey)
Bieber sends a message with the lyrics, “Am I in love with you? Or am I in love with the feeling?” Bieber, 21, is still very young and exploring love; he still doesn’t quite know what he is feeling with it. Adding Halsey into the song added another perspective from a woman’s point of view.

10. Life Is Worth Living
The lyrics in this song were the deepest and most meaningful out of all the songs in the album. The tempo slowed down which added to the effect of the song and made the lyrics sound like they were coming from Bieber’s heart.

11. Where Are Ü Now
This song was released early on June 29. Bieber collaborated with Skrillex and Diplo to produce this song, so it was nothing like any of the others in the album, except for the fact that Bieber let his emotions shine through.

12. Children
Bieber shows his understanding of his effect on other lives when he says, “Look at all the children we can change.” Besides the fact that this song shows Bieber’s maturation, I couldn’t figure out how it fit into the story or Bieber’s album. However, it didn’t matter that it didn’t fit in with the rest of the album because Bieber’s voice sounded amazing and the song still was able to send a strong and important message.

13. Purpose
This song concluded Bieber’s album and tied together the developing story throughout it. The tempo was slow, and it ended with Bieber talking instead of singing. His words definitely came from the bottom of his heart.
