Spirit week kicked off Friday, Jan. 22 and continues until next Friday, Jan. 29. The week gives students the opportunity to show their school spirit by dressing according to a different theme every day.

In honor of the men’s and women’s basketball teams’ Break the Record Nights, this week will consist of basketball-themed dress-up days: Ballingly Blue Friday, Sponsored by _____ Monday, Travel Tuesday, Hooping Hump Day, Collegiate Thursday and White Out Friday.

“We started it on Friday so we could include [the women’s basketball team] into the whole week,” said junior Anika Kingsley, head of the Spirit Week committee and a member of the women’s basketball team.

Junior Delaney Davis, Kingsley’s teammate, is glad that spirit week was extended an extra day.

“It’s awesome that Student Government decided to include our game on Saturday in spirit week,” Davis said. “Hopefully, Friday will get everybody pumped up for our Break the Record Night.”

Kingsley expects to see the majority of the student body dressed up for White-Out and Ballingly Blue Friday–which continues through Saturday’s game.

“A lot of people get into those [days] because it’s just a color, so you can easily do it,” Kingsley said. “I just like walking around school and seeing everyone in all-white or all-blue.”

In addition to the dress-up days, Student Government has planned a three-pointer competition in the South Gym on Wednesday.

In preparation for spirit week, Kingsley and her committee have created fliers and posters to let the student body know what to expect.

Student Government also posts pictures of possible outfits for the different days on Twitter and Instagram the night before.
