At the first round of the Northern California tennis tournament, the Davis High men’s tennis team fell to the Acalanes Dons for the third time this season on Friday, May 20.

The team lost 5-2 in their final match of the season. The wins came from No. 1 doubles players seniors Chase Kellison and Victor Li, winning 6-0, 6-1, and No. 4 singles player junior Kyle Qi, winning 6-4, 6-4.

“I would give the team a ‘B’ grade for the match,” coach Dale Hersch said. “It would’ve taken an ‘A’ to possibly win against Acalanes.”

Unfortunately, junior Cooper Hosley tallied his only loss of the season in this match against Acalanes at No. 2 doubles with partner junior Yoshi Wainwright. However, Hosley is proud of the team’s performance for the overall season.

“We didn’t lose a league match, we won sections and we made it to NorCals,” Hosley said. “It was a very successful season.”

Now the team looks to the future.

“I believe we can perform pretty well [next season],” Hersch said. “We lose three players in our top 10 but we should still be able to contend for the section title.”

Kellison will be one of the players leaving the team.

“I had a great season and some of the best times of my life, but I knew this was the last one so I tried to make the most out of it,” Kellison said.
