The Davis High women’s varsity volleyball team lost to Pleasant Valley on Thursday, Sept. 14.

In the first set, DHS took the lead, 25-23, but Pleasant Valley soon picked up the pace and won the next three sets. The Vikings won the second set 18-25.

Junior Jessie Siu thought the team lacked coordination.

“I don’t think we necessarily did our best; I think at times we had some really great plays but their offense was just a little too strong tonight and we just couldn’t get quite under the ball and work together,” Siu said.

In the third set, Pleasant Valley barely took the upper hand, winning 23-25. Junior Tiya Kamba-Griffin says they have a strategy for when the team is down.

“[A]fter every point we get together in a circle and we talk about what we did wrong, and what we can do better and try to encourage each other,” Kamba-Griffin said.

In the game-winning set, Pleasant Valley beat DHS 17-25.

According to Siu, the team knows what it needs work on to do better the next match.

“Do a little more prep work before the game…maybe take our warm ups a little more seriously…I don’t think we were as focused as we could’ve been tonight,” Siu said.

The Blue Devils left with a lose but the team is strong overall.

“I have some of my best friends on this team and we’re all super close and getting to compete with them, not a lot of people get to have this experience,” Siu said.
