Instagram account @overheardindavisca, based in Davis, has been posting since late June of 2016. Followers are encouraged to submit quotes they hear in other locals’ conversations, and a select few get posted to the page. Overheardindavisca has received a very positive reaction, and many followers find the content to be relatable and amusing.
“The page is super accurate because some of the things that are posted there are super similar to things you’ve heard before,” sophomore Erica Fredrickson said.
Other followers, like senior Maddie Price, think the account pokes fun at the Davis general public in a positive way.
“It’s funky how the town is somehow so anti-capitalism, but also really into granola. It’s a really interesting balance and I feel like the Instagram account really highlights that,” Price said.
Junior Shilpa Mudumbre enjoys how the page’s content represents the city and the people in it.
“I think it’s beautiful that there’s an Instagram page to really reflect what the Davis community is all about,” junior Shilpa Mudumbe said.
The only problem junior Erin Lovell has with the account is its posting schedule. Quotes used to be posted a few times a week, but none have been posted since July 20, 2017.
“I think that they should post more often. Sometimes I forget I’m following them and I’m distraught,” Lovell said.
Despite the recent lack of posts, Mudumbe still looks back on the account when she wants to chuckle.
“It really gets my mood up whenever I get stressed out about all these hard math classes,” Mudumbe said.
The owners of the account were reached out to, but they did not give a comment.
