Davis High’s football team was unable to keep up with the Franklin High Wildcats on Friday night’s homecoming game. For most of the game the Wildcats were in the lead, and although the Blue Devils made an attempt at closing the gap between the scores in the second half of the game, the Wildcats continued to stay ahead and eventually left Brown Stadium with the victorious score of 51-17

In the first quarter after turning over the ball to Franklin. The Blue Devils could not hold Franklin back from scoring. However Teddy Oldham, the Blue Devil’s kicker, booted the ball through the goal posts, giving DHS a place on the scoreboard and leaving the first quarter 17-3, Wildcats in the lead.

In the second half the game DHS turned around. Blue Devils’ Kayden Hoal scored the first touchdown of the night for Davis, and the Blue Devils got the extra point, bringing the score to 51-10.

“Our effort was there. That’s what we’ve been lacking in the past couple games. But I could tell for the first three-fourths of the game we put our balls on the line you could say,” Payne Barksdale said.

The Blue Devils scored one more touchdown in the fourth quarter leaving the final score at 51-17.

On the field there were no excuses for the Blue Devil’s loss.

“I let other people make excuses for how we played tonight, and that’s for parents and other people to make excuses about the air,” coach Ty Brown said. “We just lost 51 to 17; there [were] just not enough fine moments.”

Despite it being a hard loss for the Blue Devils, they still plan on working hard.

“We were able to make some fourth down stops a couple times in the game here and there, those were some good moments and some things to build on,” Brown said. “We’re just gonna get back to practice and look at what we did well tonight.”
