“Venom” is a thriller and a comedy all wrapped in one. The main character, Eddie Brock, played by Tom Hardy, is an investigative reporter who gets inhabited by an alien creature known as Venom.

The two characters become one.

Although the movie itself was entertaining, there was not much depth or complexity to the plot.

Eddie’s love interest, Ann Weying (Michelle Williams) is unlikable. In movies like this, you are supposed to root for the broken couple, but she was rather obnoxious. She did not really seem to care about him and at times led him on.

The overall comedy aspect of the movie kept the audience laughing. There was a good mix of light hearted jokes and action. It had a similar feel to “Deadpool”, which did great in the box office. Deadpool is funny and action packed, just like Venom. If you enjoyed one, you will enjoy the other.

The beginning, middle and end seemed to blend together, making the transitions into different points of the movie difficult to identify.

The climax fight scene did not have a lot of build up, but still left the viewers with a big and firey fight scene. The fight scene was exciting and intense, however it could have been longer. Viewers come for the action, so the more action, the better.

The confusing part of this movie was that in every other Spider-Man franchise movie, Venom is the villain. In this movie, however, he was a neutral character.

At first, he is portrayed as a monster that inhibits Eddie and plans world domination. Then, with some development, he changes his judgment and decides he likes Earth and humans.

Venom becomes a likable character to viewers, which will probably be a gateway into a second movie.

If you are a superhero fanatic, watch this movie. It was entertaining and there was never really a dull moment. The action and comedy mix keeps the viewer intrigued. However, the plot wasn’t well executed and there were minor errors, so this is only the movie for those who enjoy light, casual action and comedy.
