A+ students achieve academic awards

The Academic Center hosted its monthly Academic Center Awards ceremony on Jan. 25.

Tutors from UC Davis who help students on the Davis High campus with their schoolwork meet once a month to nominate 10 students who excelled from an academic standpoint.

Selected students are awarded a certificate and a gift card.

“With this award, they realize that someone is actually paying attention and someone is watching that they are trying, they are wanting to succeed,” said Elodia Alvarez, Academic Center program supervisor.

The winners are determined based on their attendance, assignments, grades, effort and organization. If the student in question excels in these categories throughout the month, they will receive the award.

“It’s kinda cool you know… I mean it feels nice to be recognized you know,” senior Cesar Reyes, an Academic Award recipient, said.
