Davis Idol came to a close as the 10 finalists sang, giving their all to impress the judges and the audience in hopes of winning on Feb. 2 at Davis High’s Brunelle Theater.
The first to sing was senior McKella Van Boxtel with “Out Here On My Own” by Irene Cara. Her song was a great way to start the event and the judges had all good things to say.
The second singer was sophomore Natalie Ries who sang “Love Song” by Sara Bareilles. The judges were impressed by her stage presence and Ries received a huge round of applause from the audience.
Next was sophomore Estrella Navarrete and her rendition of “I Can’t Help Falling In Love With You” by Lili Reihart. Her performance impressed both the judges and the audience.
Senior Cinnamon Dale was next, singing their original song “Things Left Behind Stars” that showcased their songwriting abilities.
After Dale was junior Bela Acosta singing “Way Over Yonder” by Carol King. Sophomore Gabby Marquez followed singing “Stone Cold” by Demi Lovato.
Next up was junior Lily Linaweaver with “Love Will Come and Find Me Again” by Bandstand. Linaweaver received high praise from the judges.
LISTEN to the audience react to Linaweaver’s performance:
Senior Shayleigh Thompson followed singing “She Used To Be Mine” by Waitress.
Next, junior Emily Landerman sang “Natural Woman” by Aretha Franklin. The last singer of the night was Avital Schwarz singing “Bird Set Free” by Sia.
Last year’s winner Simone Gamble and judge Arielle Deem performed at the show’s intermission.
The show ended with the announcement of the judge’s choice and people’s choice winners. Thompson won people’s choice and Linaweaver won judge’s choice, then she closed off the night’s show with “One Perfect Moment” by Bring It On.

Schwarz recommends participating in Davis Idol.
“When I first heard about it, I wasn’t sure if I was going to do it, because I was really nervous, but I’m really glad that I went for it because it was such a fun experience!” Schwarz said.
