Upon receiving the Davis Fire Department incident report, the C-wing men’s bathroom fire on Nov. 1 can be directly linked to a vape pen a student placed on the top of a soap dispenser.

At the time of the fire, firefighters were quickly dispatched. Upon their arrival, they noticed a small fire emitting smoke and burning plastic fumes from beneath the bathroom sink. Firefighters immediately extinguished the flames with a water extinguisher.

Based on the evidence, first responders concluded that the soap dispenser erupted in flames after a student placed a vape pen on top, unaware that it was still on.

Two male students were found to be involved and were interviewed following the incident. Official personnel determined the the event was unintentional.

One reported the accident to the vice principal, Mark Simi, and the other was found to be involved upon the discovery of his backpack in the bathroom garbage can. The damage is estimated to cost $1,000.

DHS administration was contacted but did not respond prior to the date of publication so the discipline the two male students faced and the way the school will be financing the damage is unknown.
