Emily's Eats: Uncle Vitos

Its hard not to notice the new black and white retro painting that covers the walls of the new Uncle Vitos on E and 2nd street. Along with the blaring-loud music and the young updated retro atmosphere, Uncle Vitos has added an open casual atmosphere that Davis was lacking.
However, their “slice of N.Y.” doesn’t quite match the upbeat atmosphere.
This new venue features entrees including pizza (by the slice or a 20” ‘Pies’ only), salads, sandwiches, wings, and a variety of random Italian starters.
The pizza, to me, seemed more like crust and cheese, without much sauce. The combo slice was drenched in mushrooms and olives (yuck!) and was lacking in the pepperoni and giant sausages I hoped for.
Other various slices of pizza remained very skimpy on the toppings as well
Not only was the slice greasy, but the crust was hard, a taste I wouldn’t expect out of pizza until a few days after sitting in the fridge.
However, the non-gooey cheese was a plus.
Their thin crust pizza by the slice ranges in price from 3.75 to 4.25 and are almost a foot long.
They feature cheese, pepperoni, tomato pesto, combo, and a special of the day.
Their full sized pizza pies are only offered in one size, 20 inches. They have a variety of creations including the ‘Go Aggies! Combo’ that are between 22.95 and 26.95.
Vitos also features a make your own for 21.95 plus extra for pies.
One very appealing fact about Uncle Vitos is the atmosphere. Located in the heart of downtown, Vitos has a very polished outside with its own mural, an outdoor seating venue with a glass garage (oh yes, that’s awesome), and a very sleek looking bar.
The inside is painted shades of yellow and brown with various white-and-black murals of Italians enjoying Uncle Vitos. (It is odd that it’s Italian themed, and advertised as a slice of New York.)
Kudos to Uncle Vitos though, for the new eclectic environment .
The service is decent. The employees are polite and informative, yet it is hard to hear them over the loud music and the clatter of pizza pans.
I would recommend Uncle Vitos to people in the mood for some mod atmosphere, pumping music, and an outing with a big group.
This place adds the young college bar in downtown that Davis was missing (since, the grad isn’t enough for an entire university).
Not recommended for children or families, because of the volume and the bar-like feeling.
Overall, head over to Uncle Vitos for a slice of decent pizza and get ready for some great conversation, atmosphere, and an escape from the typical quite Davis-y restaurant.
