The DHS junior varsity football team lost to the Vacaville Bulldogs Friday night, 21-23. The score was close as the Blue Devils lost by two points with the three touchdowns by Courtney Williams.
DHS football player Alex O’Hearn kicked off the JV football game Friday. After two minutes, the Bulldogs punted the ball to the Blue Devils, but were able to pick up the safety which gave them two points. Throughout the first half the score remained 0-2 until the Valley’s Josh Polstin scored a touchdown making the score 0-9. DHS recovered fast when Williams scored a touchdown followed by the field goal by Samantha Houck.
The Bulldogs quickly came back with another touchdown and try for point leading 7-15 during the third quarter. Three minutes after the Bulldogs touchdown they regained possession of the ball when the Devils failed to advance ten yards, but lineman Ammed Juarez intercepts the ball and then with Williams speeding down after for a another touchdown the Blue Devils again trailed by two by the end of the third quarter.
Then Williams closes the two point gap with a four point lead by scoring another touchdown five minutes into the fourth quarter. Then with another try for point made again by Houck, the Devils lead 21-16. DHS student and member of the audience Simone Aldredge said, “I think it’s great that they made a great come back and Courtney Williams is amazing! He scored the only three touch downs in the game!” The Bulldogs do not take this lying down and close to the end of the game they score another touch down which led to the Bulldogs leading the game 21-23 and the injury of Blue Devils Lucas Drattesani 57.
With less then two minutes of the game the Blue Devils could not make a comeback and lost with the final score of 21-23. “It felt pretty good [scoring three touch downs] and I though we had it, [but] it came down to a few plays and we just didn’t get it” said Williams.
“I feel that we did pretty well, but we made some mistakes and I think we need to work on passing [because] I think we caught one out of 16” said Houck. “But even though we lost it was a close game and I know next time we will win for sure” said Houck.
