Fantasy Football: Fun for Players too
By Claire Karban

The DHS football season has proven to be a bit rough thus far, causing some students to go elsewhere for their football thrills. An increasing number of DHS football fans are trading in foam fingers and blow horns for a computer mouse.
Fantasy football leagues abound on the internet and provide players with a space to compete against each other after forming hand-picked, virtual teams from real live players. All with out leaving the desk – talk about an all-American sport! Yahoo! Sports and ESPN are the most popular sites to join leagues, says senior Will Robinson, a veteran fantasy football player.
But fantasy football and real football are less similar than the names imply. Entirely different skill sets are required to succeed at each. The virtual version requires no athletic ability at all, which could be a reason for its popularity. Rather, it is much more of a strategy game.

By Wesley Leigh

DHS swept the Sac-Joaquin Sub Section meet on Nov 8. All seven parts of cross country teams move on to section championships, including varsity, JV, sophomore, freshman, and Frosh/Soph men and women. The meet was packed with both division one and division two schools.
Coach Bill Gregg and assistant coach Francisco Cornejo wanted to focus on next weeks section championships, and possibly the state championship. “The varsity boys, also on cruise control, finished 60 points ahead of the second place team” said Gregg. Cross country is scored based on a team’s top six runners. Each runner’s place in the race is added together and the team with the least amount of points wins.

The DHS women’s tennis team earned the title of undefeated league champions this Wednesday when they beat Sacramento’s Kennedy High School. With their 9-0 standing, DHS can now proceed to the Sac-Joaquin Quarter-Finals. If Davis gets past that challenge, they will move on to the semi-finals; one step closer to the finals.
Several DHS team members won within two sets, including No. 2 sophomore Naomi Wainwright. She beat her No. 2 Kennedy High School opponent, Stephanie Louie, 6-4 in both sets.
