The men’s varsity basketball team started off their season on Jan. 7 in a defeat against Dixon High School’s Rams.

The Blue Devil men were met with full stands on Saturday night. The fast passed game started with Davis and Dixon neck in neck, ending the first quarter tied 25-25.

Soon Dixon broke away from Davis’s high pressure offense and took advantage of the weak Blue Devil defense, taking a lead of eight points by the second quarter. The rest of the game had Davis trailing Dixon by eight points or more, fighting to keep pace with the Ram’s offense.

Ending the third quarter down by 11 points, Davis was losing steam. The focus the team had at the beginning of the game had diverged, leaving the Blue Devils venerable to the fundamentals Dixon executed and that they lacked.

Davis regained strength during the end of the game, but time ran out before the Blue Devils could recover, leaving the score 91-88 Dixon.

Davis’s high scorers were junior Kevin Sorenson with 13 points and senior Tyler Sousa with 16 points. Dixon’s Michael Tomelloso added 22 points to the Ram’s score, while teammates Alfonso Hernandez and Jeffery Miner both scored 19 points.

The men’s basketball team takes on Grant on Jan. 11. The next home game is Jan. 13 versus Laguna Creek.
