Although the scores weren’t piling in, Davis Senior High School’s varsity field hockey team held up a powerful defense to beat the Corning Cardinals 3-0 on Wednesday.

“It was not their best game,” Coach Sandie Marotti-Huckins said. According to Marotti-Huckins, the team did not shoot enough, but the defense was strong enough to stay in the game.

With strong blocks from juniors Jade Bugsch and Natalie Silver, the Blue Devils kept the ball off of their side for the majority of the game.

The defense did not allow the Cardinals to even shoot in the second half of the game.

Although the offensive intensity didn’t come through in the game, senior Kylie Drexel led the offense, making all three goals, with several close shots throughout.

“The team was pretty bummed by the level of play,” junior Sara Pinto said.

The team has had a strong season thus far, and hopes that they will come back stronger in their next game.

“We are a good team, so I know we will do better,” Pinto added.

The varsity field hockey team will get the chance to prove it on Friday.
