The Davis High Blue Devils women’s field hockey team played hard at a non-conference game against Saint Francis on Oct.13. With an ending score of 3-0 the Devil’s first loss does not affect their top seating in the league.

“It’s basically a scrimmage for us,” Coach Sandie Marotti-Huckins said, “but we’re not going to act like it is.” Their strong defense and a mid-field who played the ball wide had Saint Francis working hard for their goals. With impressive passing Davis High made a valiant effort to score, but according to Marotti-Huckins, “it just didn’t click.”

The opposing team made sure to make it nearly impossible for the Devils to score by cramming half their team into the striking circle.

“We weren’t playing as well as we could have and as well as I know we can,” junior Sara Pinto said, “but we still worked hard. Our passes and chemistry were just not connecting.” However, the Devils still feel as if this victory could have been theirs.

“This team is beatable and I’m sure if we were to play them again we would be able to take them,” senior Emily Barber said.

The team plans to redeem themselves and maintain their leading position in the league with their game on Oct. 17.
