“Hey, the hotdogs are on the house everybody!”

The new DHS Principal Will Brown held a pleasant Meet and Greet event on the DHS quad on Monday, Aug. 26.  Parents gathered around their kids’ new principal, bathed in his booming, charismatic voice, in order to meet the new principal and chat enthusiastically about the upcoming year.

“This is one of the greatest American High Schools- it really is,” said Brown, a former Sacramento math teacher and football coach.  “What we want to do is make it the great American high school.”

Terra Perkins is a DHS parent who attended the event to meet Principal Brown. She said that she was glad that Brown showed interest in her son and his goals for the rest of high school.

“He’s set his doors open so I can come in any time and talk to him,” Perkins said.  “I really like the open door policy.”

Junior Andre Martinez spoke to Brown as well and said that he thinks Brown will be a great principal. “He seemed like a really pumped guy- he had great energy,” Martinez said.

Brown has created a Facebook profile under the name of “Dshs Principal Brown” in order to “share events and build a community.”  He sends and accepts friend requests from students, staff, and members of the community.

When it comes to social media, “he’s definitely on the right track,” Martinez said.

“From the looks of the Facebook page, it seems like he’s willing to listen to people. That’s always good,” junior Henry Zhang added.

“[My Facebook account] isn’t about knowing your embarrassing profiles or personal information or anything like that,” Brown said. He then added that he doesn’t have the interest in or time to look at individual students’ profiles.  He simply wants to connect and inform the Davis community-a community that he will soon play a very large role in.
