As the scalding months of summer dwindle down, it is the best time to go and watch sports games with family and friends. The DHS Blue Devils played the Oak Ridge Trojans on Sept 24, with a final score of 17-4 Blue Devils. The Blue Devils gained a significant win this particular evening.

The game got off to a great start, with each team scoring a goal. DHS scored two more goals in the duration of the first quarter, leaving the score at 3-1 Blue Devils.

As the second quarter progressed, the audience began to see the great influence of DHS senior Heather Johnson. All players contributed to the next three Devil goals and Johnson scored two more goals for DHS in the second quarter. When the buzzer went off signaling halftime, the score was left at 8-2, Blue Devils.

In the third quarter, Johnson showed much more athletic vigor by scoring three goals for DHS.

A particularly interesting play was when the ball was traveling from one team to another, having spectators holding their breath from the suspense the game and not knowing which team would win the ball. Junior Mara Dominguez passed the ball to Johnson, who scored the final goal for DHS in the third quarter.

With a minute left in third quarter, the Trojans scored an unexpected goal, bringing the score to 11-4.

The excitement doubled within the last quarter, when the Blue Devils managed to score six goals in a mere seven minutes.

To the audience, it looked like the players were working at their top ability, but players revealed after the game that they feel they did not put 100 percent of their effort into the game.

“ I think I performed pretty well, but I still think there are things I need to work on with my team and our communication. Overall, I feel pretty good about the win,” Dominguez said.

Johnson agrees.

“It definitely wasn’t my best game, and we didn’t communicate as much as we usually do,” Johnson said.

Although coach Doug Wright is proud of his team, he believes more improvement is needed for future games.

“In general, we had great movement down the pool but I thought our defense was a little shaky. Come Friday, we need to do a lot better with that,” Wright said.
