Senior Eli Castro plays strong safety and linebacker for the Davis High varsity football team. Castro is a co-captain on the team along with Brendan MacDonald, Zac Slavich, Winfred Roberson and Bailey Murray.

“I feel like being a captain encourages me to push my team harder to be the best we can be,” Castro said.

He tries to touch on all the bases of being a captain which includes both on and off the field.

“During a game I try make sure that my teammates are on task and focused on what’s going on, not slacking off,” Castro said.

When they are off the field, Castro tries to set a good example for the younger players who are on the team.

“I try to make a positive influence on the younger class by being polite, responsible and making sure that some of my football classmates are doing well in class,” Castro said.

On Oct. 11, the Blue Devils will take on Monterey Trail in the homecoming game. The team has been preparing for the game with harder and longer practices with their new coach this year, Mark Hicks.

“We as a team are trying to stay as focused as we can on the game this week and Coach Hicks has done such a great job so far this year of helping us do that. I think the team is ready to come out with a good win this Friday night,” Castro said.
