Many students find their niche in sports, music, or academics, but junior André Martinez has a more uncommon passion: the art of film.

Martinez has been making films since then age of nine, and has produced a total of nine major productions. This year, he plans on producing an approximately 45 minute long action drama film.

“The plot of this film specifically is the story of three men being drafted into the Vietnam War and really experiencing all of their worst nightmares during the horror of unregulated combat,” Martinez said.

To help with this, Martinez is looking for student actors at Davis High to audition for the roles. He anticipates that he will need about 20 actors total to produce this film.

Although Martinez hopes that the three leads have some acting experience, he welcomes anyone to audition for the any of the other supporting roles.

“Supporting actors can really be anybody,” Martinez said, “as long as I’m able to work with them.”

Junior Mariah Coburn and senior Marissa Walker helped Martinez write the script, and he will be releasing his film on his Youtube account sometime towards the end of school year. He is also looking for venues to hold a premiere screening, as well as distributing DVDs when the production is complete.

Auditions will be held Jan. 14 to Jan. 16 after school in the DHS library. Audition forms will be available in Mrs. Bruch’s classroom prior to the audition.

Martinez’s passion for film-making does not end here; in fact, he hopes to pursue a career in film-making in the future.

“I have a serious passion about my work,” Martinez said.
