The Davis High women’s tennis team scored a victory against Pleasant Grove on Wednesday, Oct. 14, with a final score of 7-2.

The single players were seniors Tatiana Pellow, Angela Donahue, Elena Neale-Sacks and Katherine Murdoch, junior Chiara Armstrong and sophomore Nancy Avoce. Five out of six singles players won their matches.

Pellow, playing in the No. 1 singles position for DHS, grabbed two wins (6-4 and 6-3) to complete her match, utilizing fast moves and sharp hits.

Despite losing her sets, Avoce put out a strong effort on the court by working hard.

As for doubles players, junior Rebeca Engelhard and sophomore Sage Furman, juniors Addie O’Hanlon and Amy Fang and freshmen Danielle Bollinger and Maggie Warren partnered, bringing the tennis team two doubles match wins.

Engelhard and Furman used teamwork to win both their sets with scores of 6-2 and 7-5. They coordinated with each other to ensure certain parts of the court were covered when needed.

Team captain junior Lauren Duan eagerly watched her team go up against Pleasant Grove’s tennis team.

“I thought the team did really well today. Last time, we won by a close margin, but we had a pretty decisive victory today with the 7-2 win. I’m really proud of everyone,” Duan said.

Duan believes the team will be able to make it to sections this year.

“It’s been really great to see how the team has been able to grow in these few months, “ she said.
