Veteran Davis High cross-country coach Bill Gregg says that this year’s women’s varsity squad is “absolutely the best” in the history of the program.

The Blue Devils, who won the Sac-Joaquin Section title and placed second at the state meet (two points out of first), fly to Portland, Ore. on Thursday, Dec. 3 for the Nike Cross Nationals (NXN) meet. Saturday’s race will pit DHS (U.S. No. 3) against No. 1 Manlius and No. 2 Great Oak–which won the California state meet last week–as well as 19 of the other top teams in the country.

Davis High’s two-time state champion and senior Fiona O’Keeffe, who has twice finished fourth at NXN but is currently battling tendinitis, will fly to Portland with the team and has yet to decide whether she will race.
