The Davis High men’s volleyball team hopes a new head coach–2007 Davis High graduate Elizabeth Serra-Hsu–will spark a return to the Delta League playoffs.

Although the team struggled in league play last year against tough squads like Jesuit, failing to make the playoffs after losing the deciding game, senior Sam Bailey thinks this year will be different.

“We’re definitely a developing team but we have a lot of talent,” Bailey said, pointing to returning JV players and experienced members of off-season club teams. “Our new coach seems like she really wants to help us get better; I think this should be a good year for us.”

Serra-Hsu, who previously coached the UC Davis men’s volleyball team, is equally excited about the future.

“I’m just hoping for a good season,” she said. “I hope all the guys are excited and ready to come out and play.”

Senior Nick Simmons described Serra-Hsu’s efforts to reach out to her players.

The team’s first home game is Feb. 29 against Laguna Creek.
