The Davis High women’s soccer team remained undefeated with a 7-1 win over Pleasant Grove Wednesday, April 27. Despite the ominous thunder and high winds, the game continued on, and Davis was able to score three goals in the first half to take a commanding lead they would not relinquish.

“Last time we played them, it was harder to pull out a win because we played on a small field which worked to their advantage,” senior Hannah DeKnikker said. “We have a fairly large field so we were able to take advance of how compact they were on the field, which helped us win by a large goal differential.”

During the game, DeKnikker was cleated in the face and had to sit out.

“I scored a goal and soon after I went into a tackle and the opponent ended up cleating me in the face, so no concussion but a possible broken nose,” DeKnikker explained.

Head coach Sara Stone says the win was important in the Delta League seeding.

“We have two other games to round out the league, and Pleasant Grove is one of the top four or five teams in the league right now and they take five teams from our league, so we wanted to make sure we came away with hopefully a No.1 seed, so today’s win will allow us to get through the next two games,” Stone said.

Last year, after a loss against Franklin, the team was a co-champion. But this year, Stone hopes the team will stand alone in the No.1 spot at the end of Delta League play.
