Coming to a new school has its highs and lows, and members of this year’s sophomore class have both these extremes on their minds.

Sophomore Mia Croff is enthusiastic about coming to a new school.

“[Davis High] is a great campus with lots of opportunities,” Croff said. “I’m excited to be able to get more involved in my school and challenge myself.”

Sophomore Allyson Kang is looking forward to taking subjects that she has not had a chance to take in junior high, like chemistry.

“I’m excited to learn about new topics that I haven’t really explored before,” Kang said.

Sophomore Cora Ethier said that she wants to join clubs like the Spanish club or feminism club, but is nervous about finding out the difficulty of her classes and meeting her teachers.

While multiple sophomores are nervous about the difficulty of their courses, senior Jude Manansala believes that even if one’s class is difficult, the student can get by with a little help from his or her friends.

“It’s helpful to have a few friends in each class who you can talk to about assignments and tests and such,” Manansala said.

However, some sophomores like Kang are worried about finding new friends in classes that they do not have with their existing friends.

Senior Catie House provides a useful solution for making friends.

“[On] the first day of school, just be yourself and always smile. Ninety-nine percent of the time, when you smile at someone, they’ll smile back, and boom, you got an acquaintance,” House said.
