Members of the Davis High student government class judged entries in this year’s door decorating competition during fourth period on Oct. 13. The winners will be announced on Oct. 15.

For the competition, participating period four classes had one week to design a door based on this year’s homecoming theme: dazzling decades. Classes designed their doors based on a 70s, 80s or 90s theme.

Student government went from door to door, congratulating the students and teachers on their participation in the contest. They also listened as representatives from each participating classroom explained what they included on their doors.

Some doors exceeded the student government’s expectations of what each class would do. Some classes included live music, dancing and a fog machine in their contest entries.

“We’ve got music, we’ve got art, we’ve got dance,” student government adviser Anthony Vasquez said. “My expectations [of the competition] have been surpassed and exceeded.”

The door decorating committee, who is in charge of the competition, then discussed the winners. They judged based on four categories: best connection to theme, most creative, best use of outside materials, and overall.

“It’s all about school spirit […] getting into the vibe,” student government representative senior Eitan Rosenheim said.
