Varsity football catches a Homecoming victory

The Davis High varsity football team beat the visiting Pleasant Grove Vikings 42-19, on Oct. 15. in front of student. The game was one of the many events taking place during the Homecoming weekend.

Senior Jude Vaughn started off the game with a series of long runs, eventually resulting in a touchdown, giving Davis an early 7-0 lead. 

After a Pleasant Grove turnover, quarterback Trajan Clark matched Vaughn with a run of his own, sprinting down the field for a touchdown.

Pleasant Grove was able to return with a touchdown of their own, but a blocked extra point attempt kept the score 14-6.

Davis got the ball back, but quickly fumbled the ball, giving Pleasant Grove a chance to bring themselves back into the game. However, as Pleasant Grove looked to even up the score, they had a fumble of their own.

Davis then marched up the field and scored a touchdown, making the score 21-6 going into the half.

Pleasant Grove answered with a touchdown to open the second half.

On the next drive, Davis fumbled the ball resulting in another Pleasant Grove touchdown, bringing the score to 21-19.

Davis then broke the game open, scoring three more touchdowns to bring the final score to 42-19.

The team was very pleased with their performance in all aspects of the game. “I think we did great on both sides of the ball, offense was making plays, defense was making plays,” Vaugh said.

The coaching staff knows that they must keep working hard to keep up this level of play. “Our motto is keep grinding […] a few more games to play and we are getting better each week. That’s the key,” coach Paul Hasson said.
