In the first week of the ski season, the Davis High ski team won first place in all four divisions (men’s varsity, women’s varsity, men’s JV, and women’s JV) at both of the first two races of the season.

“We happen to get the most points in every single category because we’re the best,” junior Max McMullen said.

The season started with a race at Northstar on Jan. 10, which, according to McMullen, was uneventful outside of the fact that “we won, again.”

However, there were a few remarkable performances, including junior Athena Leckie placing third in the women’s varsity division after mostly placing sixth-10th last season.

“She did amazingly well in the first race of the season,” sophomore Sidney Johnson said. “I was so happy for her.”

Another outstanding skier on the team is junior Lukas Voss, who has “by far the fastest time” according to McMullen. “Lukas Voss beat the person in second by four or five seconds, which is a lot,” McMullen said.

The DHS men’s varsity team won its second race, at Boreal on Jan. 14, by just one point. Senior Gavin Lynch placed first, with junior Joe Mellema coming in second.

The DHS ski team has two more upcoming races in Jan. One on the 24th and one on the 31st, both at Alpine Meadows.
