Spirit week always stands out as a special break from the norm. Everyday students dress up to match a certain theme to encourage school spirit and a sense of community.

“Usually in student government we have committees, and the spirit week committee comes up with the spirit week days,” said Grace Fabionar, a sophomore in student goverment.

According to Fabionar, even people outside of the spirit week committee can come up with ideas for spirit weeks.

“I saw a TikTok about a school doing ‘anything but a backpack day’ and I sent it to the group chat saying ‘we should do this’ and we did it for Wednesday,” Fabionar said.

In order to get the word out about spirit week, student government spends a lot of time making posters. Since some people may just walk past the posters, not reading them as they hurry to class, social media may provide a better outlet for upcoming events, like spirit weeks.

“Our biggest thing is social media because our communications person makes the posts every day and we repost them on our stories,” Fabionar said.

Belynn Anderson, a sophomore at Davis High, is an active participant when it comes to spirit week.

“I think it’s very fun to do spirit week especially when the themes are really good,” Anderson said.

This week’s spirit days included, Monochrome Monday, Too Tired Tuesday, Anything but A Backpack Day on Wednesday, Movie Character Thursday, and Blizzard Out Friday.
