After days of vote tallying and fraud checking, the election results for the 2022-23 Davis High Associated Student Body officers are in.

Lindsey Fitzpatrick will be next year’s ASB President and Ashlyn Swanson will be the vice president.

The senior class President will be Nicolas Montano and the Vice President will be Norah Dulaney. Sarah Fingerman won junior class President with Grace Fabionar as her VP.

Sean Gao will be next year’s ASB secretary and Cooper Belafsky will be treasurer. Luis Carvajal will be representing the student body as the school board representative.

Juan Muhirwe won the race for clubs commissioner. Sophia Ballard will be next year’s communications commissioner. Mark Davis will be the historian, and Mollie Dyer will be the secretary of spirit.

According to Anthony Vasquez, the DHS Student Government advisor who oversaw the election, around 630 people voted between Feb. 16 and Feb. 18 via an online ballot.

“Roughly half of the students that could vote did. And I think those numbers are pretty good and pretty heartening. Much better than the United States,” Vasquez said.

The turnout was much higher than in previous years when voters used a paper ballot. Those years saw only 300-400 votes cast.

Vasquez spent the weekend after the election fraud checking the votes. Current ASB President Apurva Mishra created a code to cross check all of the votes with student records. They removed between 20 and 30 fraudulent votes.

Vasquez is looking forward to working with this new ASB next year. “I’m really excited about the amount of fresh blood joining ASB through the elections,” he said.

He hopes that next year’s student government can overcome the challenges posed by the pandemic this year and host even better events.

“We’re optimistic, very optimistic. We have no reason to be worried about next year,” Vasquez said.
