Davis High School Community Club (DHSCC) provides its members with chances to participate in their community through service and volunteering.

Junior Bailey Paquette, president of DHSCC, started the club last year to encourage other high school students to become more involved in the Davis community. “My favorite part about running (the club) is being able to give members opportunities to have fun with their friends while bettering the community through volunteer work,” Paquette said.

The club volunteered at the Legal Services of Northern California Valentine Run/Walk for Justice on Feb. 11. Paquette partnered with the event to bring groups of high school volunteers to work at the various stations of the event.

DHSCC also organizes its own events. “I think it’s really cool that we not only have events that other organizations make but that we create our own events and we plan them ourselves,” DHSCC secretary Monica Garibay said.

The club meets every other Tuesday in N-11 to present community service opportunities.

By offering chances to volunteer, DHSCC gives members a chance to earn service hours for other clubs such as NHS and Key Club, but it also builds community within the club.

“It’s really great to see how our club is making a difference with volunteers who aren’t just therefor the hours, but also to have a good time with each other,” Paquette said.

Junior Joely Cam has been in the club for two years and enjoys the social aspect of DHSCC.

“I like volunteering with friends and it’s really fun,” Cam said.
