Crowd roaring, six students made their way down the bleachers during Wednesday’s rally to be crowned Homecoming Royals.

Sophomores Lauren Lin and Bridget Berland, juniors Michael Monley and Taylor Rodgers, and seniors CJ Millican and Jasmine Anibaba were selected among their peers to be crowned as homecoming royals.

“I was so surprised during the rally–I didn’t know that would happen. It was really cool to be crowned in front of the school,” Monley said.

Lin was also surprised when her name was called during the rally; so much so that she “…was so scared coming down the bleachers, thinking [she] was going to trip,” Lin said.

Anibaba reflected on the moment happily. “If someone had told my younger self that I’d win homecoming royalty in high school, I probably wouldn’t have believed them. Being crowned together was great…it was definitely a highlight of high school,” Anibaba said.

Throughout the week, the royals carefully planned and decorated their floats in anticipation of the homecoming parade in downtown Davis. At the parade, the royals paraded around Central Park on their floats, decked out in their crowns and sashes.

Berland loved the experience. “Being crowned was so special- it was definitely surreal. The parade was so fun,” Berlan said.

“I felt such a strong sense of unity and happiness surrounded by such an enthusiastic crowd- the parade truly showcased the spirit of our community and left me with unforgettable memories. It was a very special moment,” Rodgers said.
