The DHS women’s varsity tennis team shut out Elk Grove 9-0 on Oct. 9 in a league match to continue what is now a 16 match winning streak.  The team remains undefeated in league this season.

The team won every match against Elk Grove in both singles and doubles competition. One doubles match was forfeited by Elk Grove after an athlete suffered a rolled ankle.

“I’m proud of all the girls,” coach Sally Hosley said. “They all gave up very few games and played strong.”

“The doubles teams are coming together, and the singles players are becoming more competent and playing better tennis. It’s improving up and down the ladder,” Hosley said.

The continued winning streak makes a league title likely for DHS. “Based off of today, I’m pretty confident we’ll win our league,” Hosley said.

If DHS wins the league, it will move on to compete for the section championship.

“That’s where we meet teams like St. Francis and St. Mary’s, so it’ll be some tough competition,” Hosley said.

And according to sophomore and team member Kailynn Yang, “the only thing we have to prepare for is sections.”

“I think we’ll do very well this year,” Hosley said. “If there’s any year for us to go all the way, it’s this year.”
